How to Play
One TV, everyone's phones, lots of laughing.
Getting started
- On the TV, open the site and tap Start a game. A QR code and a 4-letter code appear.
- On each phone, point your camera at the QR code to jump straight in โ or open the site and type the 4-letter code. Then tap your picture to join. No typing needed for the little ones or grandparents.
- Before starting, the TV host can pick a game pack (Family, Bible, Christmas, Spanish & Spanglish, Throwback, Little Kids, Movies & TV, or the password-protected ๐ถ๏ธ Grown-Ups), choose which rounds are in the game, how long it runs (6โ15 rounds), and turn sound on or off. Each picker has Select all / Clear all buttons.
- When everyone's in, the host taps Start game.
- Step away and come back. Each phone has a ๐ Home button โ leave and rejoin with one tap, no rescanning, and your score is waiting for you. Tap the โณ name chip to hand the phone to someone else.
The rounds
Who Said It? โ A family quote pops up. Guess who said it. Everyone plays.
Trivia โ Multiple-choice questions by category. Tap your answer.
โก Flash Round โ Quick, easy trivia where only the first correct answer scores. Your first tap is final and the timer is short, so be fast! Categories like Shapes & Colours, Lightning Math, and Quick Opposites (or quick Bible questions in the Bible pack).
Most Likely To โ A "Who's most likely toโฆ?" question. Everyone votes for a family member on their phone and the TV shows the votes stacking up live. Vote with the family and you score โ there are no wrong answers.
This or That โ A fun "would you rather" โ Pizza or Tacos? Beach or Mountains? Tap your pick; you score by going with the majority of the family. No wrong answers.
๐ Never Have I Ever โ A "Never have I everโฆ" prompt shows on the TV. Everyone privately taps ๐ I have or ๐
I haven't โ and the reveal is a completely anonymous tally (just "4 of 6 have!"), so nobody's put on the spot. A social round; everyone who answers scores the same.
๐คฅ Two Truths & a Lie โ One player writes three things about themselves on their phone โ two true, one a lie. Everyone else reads them on the TV and guesses the lie. Spot the lie to score; the author earns points for everyone they fool!
๐ Name Game โ A prompt appears ("invent a name forโฆ"). Everyone types their wittiest answer on their phone, then all the answers show up anonymously and everyone votes for the best โ you can't vote for your own. The more votes your answer gets, the more points you score, with a bonus for the winner.
๐ถ Guess the Baby โ A baby photo of a family member shows on the TV. Tap who you think it is! The reveal shows who it was and when the photo was taken.
๐ Where Are We? โ A photo of a place appears; guess where it was taken. (This round turns on once location photos have been added.)
๐ง Name the Pose โ (Grown-Ups pack only.) A yoga pose appears on the TV and on your phone. Pick the correct name from the choices. The reveal shows the answer, a short technique tip, and a difficulty rating (1โ5 stars).
๐ง Name That Pose (vote) โ (Grown-Ups pack only.) A pose appears and everyone makes up their own name for it on their phone. All the names show up anonymously and the family votes for the funniest/best (you can't vote for your own). Most votes wins the points โ and the reveal shows the pose's real name for a laugh.
๐จ Draw-Off โ Everyone draws the same silly prompt on their phone at once (e.g. "a cat astronaut"). Then all the drawings appear and everyone votes for their favorite โ no voting for your own! The top three by votes win points, with the most votes taking the biggest prize.
Draw & Guess โ One player gets a secret word and draws it on their phone; it shows up live on the TV while everyone else guesses. Everyone who guesses it earns points โ and if at least one person gets it, the artist earns the points too.
Family Trivia โ Questions built from everyone's answers to the Family Trivia setup. Guess who gave each answer. (Fill out the questionnaire from the home screen first โ these rounds appear once a few people have.)
Name That Tune โ One player gets a song and hums or sings it out loud. Everyone else picks the song.
The Wager โ Grown-ups and teens answer a trivia question. Kids and grandparents instead bet on the family member they trust to get it right โ and score if their pick nails it.
Game packs
- Pick a game pack in the lobby โ the players stay the same, but the subject matter swaps:
- Family โ the original game.
- Bible โ Bible-based throughout: trivia (including Bible places), Who Said It with Bible figures, Bible drawings, hymns to hum, and Bible-themed "Most Likely To."
- ๐ Christmas โ a holiday set: Who Said It with Santa, Scrooge & friends, festive trivia (Traditions, the Nativity, Around the World), carols to hum, and holiday "would you rather."
- ๐ฒ๐ฝ Spanish & Spanglish โ celebrates the family's roots. Who Said It becomes a bilingual Loterรญa "ยฟQuiรฉn soy?" riddle round, plus Spanish/Spanglish trivia, traditional songs, and bilingual draw words.
- ๐ผ Throwback โ nostalgia & decades: Who Said It with era characters (a flapper, a hippie, an '80s Valley Girlโฆ), old-school tech and "name that decade" trivia, and classic-hit song titles to hum.
- ๐งธ Little Kids โ made for the youngest players: Who Said It is "guess the animal by its sound," plus colors/counting/shapes/animals trivia and nursery-rhyme titles.
- ๐ฌ Movies & TV โ pop-culture fun: Who Said It with movie archetypes (the superhero, villain, wizardโฆ), genre & movie-magic trivia, and theme songs to hum.
- ๐ถ๏ธ Grown-Ups โ a password-protected, adults-only pack with a flirty, date-night vibe (think "questions over a glass of wine"): dating-archetype Who Said It, grown-up trivia & "hot takes," and spicy-but-classy prompts for Most Likely To, Never Have I Ever, and the questionnaire. Tap it in the lobby and enter the 4-digit code to unlock. A ๐ถ๏ธ spice dial (๐ Mild ยท ๐ถ๏ธ Spicy ยท ๐ฅ Wild) sets how bold it gets, from a little to a lot โ each level builds on the one below. It also unlocks the ๐ง Name the Pose yoga round. Its "Most Likely To" votes among the grown-ups only.
- "Most Likely To" votes for the real family in every pack โ you still vote for each other! (The Grown-Ups pack keeps it to the adults.)
- The Family Trivia setup page has its own pack toggle, so you can fill in answers for whichever pack you're playing.
Just for the kids
- ๐ก Give me a hint. On a child's phone, a hint button shows up during answer rounds. Tap it to knock the choices down to just two โ the right answer and one other. One hint per round, and it's private to that player.
Teams (optional)
- Flip on Teams in the lobby to play 2โ5 teams instead of individuals. Everyone picks their team colour on their phone.
- Only the first teammate to answer counts for the team each round โ once someone locks in, the rest are cheering them on. That means teams don't have to be the same size, and every team that answers correctly earns the round's points.
Good to know
- Mostly not a speed race. In most rounds you get a generous window and a flat score for a correct answer, so the fastest tapper doesn't win by reflexes. The one exception is the โก Flash Round, where being first is the whole point.
- Built for every age. Kids and grandparents get big picture buttons and a ๐ read-aloud helper; everyone matches answers by colour and shape.
- Change your mind. You can switch your answer until the timer runs out โ except in the Flash Round, where your first tap is final.
- React anytime. Tap the emoji bar at the bottom of your phone (โค๏ธ ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฅ) and it floats up across the TV โ great for cheering, groaning, and heckling.
- Install it like an app. Use your browser's Add to Home Screen to launch Ahlchemy full-screen with no address bar. The TV also has a โถ fullscreen button and keeps the screen awake during a game.
- Drop out? No problem. If a phone disconnects, just rejoin (or tap ๐ Home and come back) โ you keep your spot and your score. And if the TV reloads mid-game, the round keeps going and picks right back up.
- The host is in charge. From the TV you can Reveal early, Pause the timer, or Skip a round whenever you need to.
- Sound & confetti. Gentle chimes, a countdown tick in the final seconds, and a winner fanfare with confetti. Toggle sound on or off in the lobby.
- High scores. Solo games are saved to an all-time leaderboard โ check ๐ High scores from the home screen.
